So Where Exactly is La Paz, Mexico?

Many foreigners are not aware that Baja California is actually two states: North and South. La Paz is located in Baja California Sur (south) about a two hour drive north of Cabo San Lucas which is on the southern tip of the peninsula. That’s about a 20 hour drive from the US border.

You can get to La Paz by land, sea or air. If you land at the San Juan del Cabo International Airport you can either rent a car for the 2.5 hour drive or relax and take a shuttle to La Paz. La Paz also has a national airport with connections to major cities like Tijuana, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterey. If you fly into the San Diego Airport you can catch a shuttle, taxi or ride share like Uber to the new Cross Border Xpress and walk directly into the Tijuana International Airport. A shuttle is also available from the Los Angeles Airport to the CBX crossing. From Tijuana it’s just a short flight into La Paz. If you come by sea, La Paz offers a selection of eight marinas or anchorage in the bay.

About La Paz
What makes La Paz unique is that it’s a larger city but doesn’t have the typical touristy feel that you get in resort cities like Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan or Cancun. You won’t be inundated with time share enticements or harassed by vendors.

La Paz is located on a quiet bay off the Gulf of California and is the capitol of Baja California Sur. The heartbeat of the city is found along its recently remodelled malecón which occupies a 5 km stretch alongside the beautiful blue-green waters of the bay. From early morning to late at night you’ll find people strolling, jogging or biking their way past the many shops and restaurants of La Paz Centro.

La Paz is slower paced with a distinct Mexican vibe but still offers all of the amenities you would expect to find in a built-up city of over 250,000 people. There are numerous familiar outlets like Walmart, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, McDonalds, etc. as well as countless Mexican alternatives.

La Paz is very close to Isla Espiritu Santo which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Bio Reserves. Many people are drawn to La Paz because of its pristine waters and diverse sea life. Tours include swimming with the whale sharks, amazing snorkelling, sea lions, killer whales, manta rays, dolphins and more. Tours for all attractions are available through various companies located along the malecón.

El Centenario
Just a 12 minute drive outside of La Paz is the small bayside community of El Centenario where Vista Properties has its office. Population is officially around 6,000 residents. Many Canadians, Americans and Europeans call this community home. The hills of El Centenario offer spacious views of the aqua bay and sentinel mountains. It’s easy to imagine yourself out on the patio sipping a cool “bebida” as the evening breeze ushers in the twinkling city lights by night. Properties are also available right along the bayshore for a true beachside living experience. El Centenario offers plenty of options to either buy or build the home of your dreams.
